La población de ovinos criollos en la provincia de Formosa, se supone es originaria de los animales introducidos por los españoles durante la colonización, pudiendo haber recibido aportes de otras razas exóticas. Ninguna de éstas, sin embargo, ha soportado las condiciones medioambientales y sistemas productivos en los que son criados los criollos.
Estos ovinos criollos se encuentran en un proceso de caracterización integral, en el marco de un trabajo de articulación institucional de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias de la Universidad Nacional del Nordeste (Corrientes) con el Centro de Validación de Tecnologías Agropecuarias de la Provincia de Formosa (CEDEVA).
El objetivo de la presente investigación fue evaluar el desempeño reproductivo del núcleo de conservación ex situ de ovejas criollas del oeste formoseño, durante los años 2015 a 2017.
